NAIDOC Week 2017
In celebration of NAIDOC Week 2017 the Pacific Leadership and Governance Precinct will ‘Women in leadership across the Torres’, a panel discussion and networking event.
The panel discussion will bring together women leaders from Papua New Guinea and Australia’s indigenous Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, including:
- Stephanie Harvey – CEO, Indigenous Community Volunteers
- Vonda Malone – Mayor, Torres Shire Council
- Dr Cecilia Nembou – President, Divine Word University
- Susil Nelson-Kongoi – National Content Manager, Exxon Mobil PNG
‘Women in leadership across the Torres’ is being held to coincide with NAIDOC Week 2017, which celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
The NAIDOC Week 2017 theme – Our Languages Matter – emphasises and celebrates the unique and essential role that Indigenous languages play in cultural identity, linking people to their land and water, and the transmission of history, spirituality and rites, through story and song.
The event will be an opportunity to hear from, ask questions and share experiences with indigenous women leaders from Papua New Guinea and Australia.
