Dr Shin Young-Soo, then-Western Pacific Regional Director of the World Health Organization, and Sir Puka Temu, Minister for Health and HIV/AIDS, set the scene with addresses that emphasised the need to strengthen primary health care in the Pacific Region.
Sir Puka was joined for a panel discussion by Dr Vivian Lin, former Director of the Division of Health Sector Development at the World Health Organization; Professor Nakapi Tefuarani, Dean of the UPNG School of Medicine and Health Science; and Sister Celine Yakasere, Health Manager at the Catholic Diocese of Wewak.
